Australia’s premier customer owned banking convention begins today

Australia’s customer owned banking sector’s premier annual convention, COBA 2019, begins today at Queensland’s Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

More than 650 delegates from Australia’s credit unions, mutual banks and building society will attend the event.

This year’s theme, Stronger Together, focuses on the opportunities for Australia’s credit unions, mutual banks and building societies that can be realised through collaboration.
COBA 2019 will include plenaries from leading speakers such as:

  • Diane Smith-Gander AO,
  • David Murray AO,
  • Lt General David Morrison,
  • Wayne Byres, and
  • Anders Sorman-Nilsson

Customer Owned Banking Association CEO Michael Lawrence said this year’s convention came at a poignant time for the sector as it contemplates the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“This year’s theme of Stronger Together goes to the opportunity for our sector to grow by collaborating with one another and with industry partners.

“There are drastic changes taking place in Australia’s retail banking market that our sector is well placed to respond to.

“Our sector is ready and able to take on the changing market and the opportunities it can provide.

“The broad array of speakers will deliver valuable insights for the attending delegates.”
