The Customer Owned Banking Association today encouraged consumers to take stock of their financial affairs and set some goals early in 2014.

COBA CEO Louise Petschler said taking just a few minutes to review expenditure can make a lifetime of difference for Australian households.

“There’s no doubt people have splurged at Christmas and enjoyed themselves,” Ms Petschler said.

“But the start of the year is also a time for reflection, where families look at what they’ve achieved and set their goals for the future.”

“Reviewing household finances doesn’t need to be boring and it can help people buy a house, pay for the kids’ education, fund a holiday or lead to a more comfortable retirement.”

COBA encouraged Australians to take advantage of the easy to use online tools offered by the MoneySmart website www.moneysmart.gov.au

COBA represents Australia’s credit unions, building societies and mutual banks who have a proud history of helping customers meet their financial goals.
