A new campaign calling for a banking system that’s Better for All has been launched, encouraging candidates this Federal election to support a system that delivers a fair go for consumers and for banking institutions big and small.

The Better for All campaign, launched by the Customer Owned Banking Association encourages both candidates and voters to pledge their support for a stronger, fairer and more competitive banking system.

“This election we want to harness the positive intent that exists from political parties and voters for a stronger, more competitive and consumer focused system,” COBA CEO Mark Degotardi said.

“There’s a genuine opportunity to narrow the gap by giving all financial institutions a fair go.

“The customer owned model delivers competitive pricing, market leading customer satisfaction, and is a major employer and supporter of local communities.

“The findings of the Financial System Inquiry and Senate Inquiry into the co-operative sector offer politicians immediate solutions.

“These reforms will make our banking system fairer and more supportive of diversity and genuine alternatives like the customer owned model, a model more than 4 million Australians choose through a mutual bank, credit union or building society.

“The solution is at the fingertips of politicians who want to foster a diverse and innovative banking market, support the economy and deliver Australians choice.

“We encourage politicians to use the solutions offered in recent inquiries to address key questions that have a significant impact on Australian households.”
