COBA today encouraged consumers to make online safety a top priority as part of continued attempts through Stay Smart Online Week to boost Australia’s cyber security and resilience.

COBA is a partner of Stay Smart Online Week and is encouraging consumers to take a little time to learn more about the ‘simple steps to online safety’.

There are five key areas of online safety being promoted during the week.

Australians are being advised to:

·         Limit what you share - be careful about how much personal information you share online.

·         Create strong passwords that are hard for others to guess.

·         Keep your computers, phones and tablets updated with the latest software.

·         Regularly back up your data.

·         Avoid online scams - be on the lookout for suspicious emails and texts, and think before clicking on links or opening attachments.

Stay Smart Online Week is part of the Australian Government’s Stay Smart Online program, designed to help everyday Australians and small to medium businesses understand the risks that come with using the internet, and the preventative measures they can take to protect personal information and assets from online scammers.

The initiative is supported by more than 1,400 business and community partners across Australia, including COBA.
