How Customer Owned Banks are working hard to spread Christmas cheer

While Christmas is a merry time for many, for those most vulnerable in our community it can be lonely and difficult. This year, COBA members are using their unique connections with local communities to go above and beyond to make sure Christmas is meaningful for everyone.

Newcastle Permanent

With Christmas right around the corner, The Salvation Army and Newcastle Permanent are calling on Hunter locals to spread some extra holiday cheer by donating a gift to the Salvos for their annual Christmas Toy Drive Appeal.

This year, the Salvos expect some 3,500 kids in the Hunter will wake up on Christmas morning without a present. By donating a gift – which can be dropped off at any Newcastle Permanent branch – the community can make Christmas a little merrier for these families in need.

Police Bank

This Christmas, Police Bank are supporting NSW Police Legacy’s young Police Legatees Program. The program empowers young people to set goals and reach and understand their inner strength.

Youth leadership programs provide Legatees with the skills to build resilience, and the confidence to break through and move beyond their fears and limiting beliefs. These programs empower young people to set goals, and to reach within and understand their inner strengths. NSW Police Legacy provides a safe space to allow inner growth.

NSW Police Legacy was initially founded to support bereaved families following the loss of their loved one, and their commitment extends to support police officers and their families in challenging times. Police Bank are significant supporters of NSW Police Legacy through special events and an annual sponsorship.

Horizon Bank

Christmas cheer is well and truly underway at Horizon Bank’s Albion Park branch. The team are working hard to gather donations for the Albion Park Community Christmas Drive. They are accepting new, unwrapped toys, gift vouchers and non-perishable food items that will be gifted to families in the local community who need them most.

Australian Mutuals Foundation

For another year, The Australian Mutuals Foundation is supporting the Gifts for Kids Christmas Toy Appeal. The Appeal aims to gift 10,000 Christmas presents to disadvantaged children, helping to ensure that every child in Barnardos Australia’s care has a gift to unwrap on Christmas Day.
